ParticipantDoes anyone have any suggestions for antennas for use on the mDot? I am trying to get some ideas on what antennas you all have used successfully on your units. Anything that you can show me would be great. Thanks!

ParticipantI’ve used the Molex 105262-0002 antenna for inside enclosures or outside use a pigtail https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/digi-international/JF1R6-CR3-4I/JF1R6-CR3-4I-ND/1090366 and https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/pulselarsen-antennas/W5012/553-2586-ND/2649130 or https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/pulselarsen-antennas/W1063/553-1474-ND/1634416

ParticipantHi Andrew,
Thanks for the inputs! I actually have that Molex antenna, but how do you connect it to the mDot? Do you need to buy a connector or something or am I just thinking to hard about it?
Thanks,

BlockedThose antennas plug right into a MTDOT-xxx-xx-SMA. Did you purchase the -UFL or -TRC? For the TRC option you’d have to solder a connector of some sort, its intended to soldered straight to a customer board. For UFL you’d need a UFL to SMA connector like Andrew linked.

ParticipantThe thing I was wondering about was https://www.digikey.co.uk/products/en?keywords=Molex%20105262-0002%20antenna this is the kind of thing I have, one of the UFL antennas. I was just curious if there was a way to hook that up to the mDot without having to buy an UFL Male / SMA Female adapter, but I am guessing not.

BlockedThat would plug straight into a MTDOT-xxx-xx-UFL. The part would be MTDOT-868-X1P-U.FL assuming you’re in Europe and want the programming header.
If you purchased a starter kit then it would only have the -SMA mDots and you would need an adapter.

ParticipantI am actually in the US, this is the mDot we are using: http://www.multitech.net/developer/products/multiconnect-dot-series/multiconnect-mdot/ I believe yes it is from the starter pack so an adapter will be needed. Thanks!

ParticipantIf you’ve got the screw connector (SMA-RP) then you just need the antenna to screw on, the Pulse Electronics W1063 is the one that Multitech have been supplying with the Conduit gateways and I’ve used it with those mDots.

ParticipantYeah, I am just trying to get some other ideas because I am trying to prototype a unit using the mDot with the screw connector, and I think it would be really helpful to use my Molex antenna because of the size, weight, and ability to contort it easily to fit in a smaller area. Thanks though!
