We have the MTSMI‑UDK dev kit, along with the iCell socket modem MTSMC-G2-GP. The problem we are having is anytime the devboard is powered down the GPS almanac is lost and it significantly increases the time the GPS takes to acquire a signal. Our application will require the modem to power off to conserve on battery consumption, but it is also important that the GPS acquires a signal as quickly as possible.

Is there a way to use a coin cell battery as a battery back up to keep the GPS almanac live? If so were would we put it on the dev board?

Currently it is not possible to keep the GPS unit alive when the SocketModem is powered off. The GPS chip we use does have a battery back-up capability, but it requires a hardware modification to accommodate this. We will add your request to the hardware revision list.
