Tagged: Ethernet PSTN E-NET Conduit
Looking at the Conduit MTCDT-246 Hardware Manual, it says the following:
E-NET RJ-45 receptacle for standard Ethernet 10/100 Base-T.
========================================================================
Caution: Ethernet ports and command ports are not designed to be connected to a public
telecommunication network or used outside the building or campus.

What does this mean exactly? The IP67 rated outdoor Conduit is PoE, and the Ethernet port is apparently only used for power, but I don’t understand it in regards to a regular (Blue) Conduit or the Indoor Conduit Access Point. I’ve also seen this warning in the rNet Cell Router maual.
Hi Chris,
It is a statement of caution. The Conduit’s/rCell’s Ethernet interface is best used behind a firewall and not placed on the public Internet. On the cellular interface (if enabled), the cellular carrier usually offers a private and a public option. Again, ideally the cellular interface should be on a private network. If the cellular interface is put on a public network, there could be data usage consequences due to infiltration/intrusion attempts.
Let us know if that helps explain it,
Darrik
Yes, thanks! We have a private network, but are interested in going public to enable automatic updates from M-T. Can you restrict incoming packet IPs on a public network?
