{"id":7915,"date":"2015-06-12T12:06:29","date_gmt":"2015-06-12T17:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.multitech.net\/developer\/?page_id=7915"},"modified":"2022-03-22T14:39:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T19:39:00","slug":"reset-mlinux-to-defaults","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.multitech.net\/developer\/software\/mlinux\/using-mlinux\/reset-mlinux-to-defaults\/","title":{"rendered":"Reset for mLinux (Factory Defaults or Reboot)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-size: 1.17em;\">Factory Default Settings using Reset Button<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you press and hold the reset button on the front of unit for &gt;= 5 seconds (all passwords are deleted and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.multitech.net\/developer\/software\/mlinux\/getting-started-with-conduit-mlinux\/commissioning-for-mlinux-devices\/\">Commissioning<\/a>\u00a0starts at next boot):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><em>For<\/em>\u00a0<em>mLinux 5.2 to 5.3.5 only, <\/em>the system restarts<em>,\u00a0<\/em>erases user passwords, and sets the network interface configurations and PPP configurations to factory default settings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><em>For<\/em>\u00a0<em><em>mLinux 6.0 and above only,<\/em><\/em> the system restarts,\u00a0removes all settings modified by the user including deletion of<em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/em>all user-installed files, passwords, and packages, reverts to the initial factory settings, and erases SSH certificates, then generates new ones.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>OR<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These following Linux commands do not delete any passwords or activate commissioning:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"brush:shell\">$ rm -rf \/var\/config\/*\r\n$ touch \/var\/config\/force_defaults\r\n$ reboot<\/pre>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Device Reboot using Reset Button<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To reboot your device while keeping your user configurations and passwords:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press and hold the reset button on front of unit for &lt; 5 seconds (all passwords are preserved and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.multitech.net\/developer\/software\/mlinux\/getting-started-with-conduit-mlinux\/commissioning-for-mlinux-devices\/\">Commissioning<\/a>\u00a0does not start)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>For Devices that do NOT have a Reset Button:<\/h3>\n<p>Some devices do not have a reset button.
