xDot "Failed to join network" on TTN with EU868

I have problems to get myxDot connected to TheThingsNetwork (TTN).
I have a TTN Gateway in direct line of sight and tried with the binary firmware releases 3.1, 3.0, 2.0.16 and even self-compiled mbed-os OTA example. In all setups, the xDot cannot join the network and I don’t see any logs in the TTN console hinting to a successful radio connection.

I’m using a MTXDOT-EU1-A00 Demoboard and I’m located in Europe/Germany.
Manufacturing date was: 02/2018

I tried for hours getting the device connected to a gateway – I tried a different location (again with a gateway close by) and still no success. I cannot make fully sense of the debug output – but as far as I understand there is no gateway in reach. (Im living in Berlin and there are at least 3-4 TTN routers in reach).

Is my xDot broken??
