Is it possible to send commands such as check-in or reboot to the conduit via SMS? I know i can send SMS to the conduit and it receives it but im not sure how to configure it to do respond to the command.

    Chad,

It is possible. The SMS commands feature has been added in AEP 1.6.2.

    Good Morning –

The SMS capability is interesting. I’ve read through the help sections on AEP->SMS admin pages (Firmware 5.0.0.-AEP), but I cannot find information on how to actually send an SMS to the Conduit.

    Any help appreciated!

    Hi William

You would acquire a cellular SIM card with SMS capabilities from the cellular carrier.
There will be a phone number associated with the SIM for SMS.
SMS can be used for wake-up or other specific deined SMS commands.
If configured for SMS commands, an example might be to send a SMS text
from your phone to the phone number of the SIM installed in the Conduit
with the body of the message being #reboot to reboot the Conduit.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for the help, Steve.

That explains it – I’ll call our cellular carrier.

I didn’t know we could order SIM cards with SMS capability. I don’t believe we ordered ours that way. At least it’s not obvious from looking at their attributes online on the carrier’s website.

    Thank you!

Two questions, can you provide a link to the documentation that explains the SMS format, i cant seem to find it anywhere and i know i have viewed it in the past.
Second, is there a way to remotely configure/ enable the SMS command feature? i have deployed conduits that i can only interact with remotely via cellular i dont see the option when trying to do a partial configuration. Im running v1.6.2 of the firmware.

    Thanks

    Hi Chad

To remotely configure/enable the SMS command feature you would use deviceHQ
and download the Conduit configuration file, load it on local Conduit and
enable SMS feature (submit/save & restart) then pull the configuration file
and upload it to deviceHQ so you can schedule it to be installed into the
    remote Conduit on next check-in.

Link to documentation below, starting on page 71.

Will this method work with different models of the conduit? i have about 3 different versions out in the field, would i need to use a similar local conduit to do this for each, or can i use any model? is it possible to manually edit the config file without a conduit?

    Thanks

    Hi Chad

It would be recommended to use the same model.
It is possible to manually edit the configuration (json) file without a Conduit,
I generally don’t recommend it because there is more room for error.

can you provide a procedure for the manual edit? do i just set the SMS commands i want to enable to true in the db.json file? i have too many versions deployed to have one of each available.
